‘Calculated bets’ | Future skills or current needs: Where should businesses focus their L&D efforts?

Future skills or current needs: Where should businesses focus their L&D efforts?

As a full-time journalist and editor, spotting AI-generated text has become one of those skills I’ve had to develop in recent years—and I think I’m pretty good at it, too.

Each time I scroll through LinkedIn, it’s easy to pick out ChatGPT-drafted posts thanks to some tell-tale signs. One big red flag to look out for is any sentence that begins something like, ‘In a period of uncertainty’, ‘In an ever-changing business landscape’, or ‘Amid an unprecedented pace of change’.

These vague, jargon-heavy clauses lack nuance and rarely do more than rack up the word count. Inadvertently, though, they indicate one of the major challenges facing the world of work.

The future is uncertain (some would say it always has been) and thanks to advancements in technology, communication, and globalisation, alongside generational and demographic shifts, our workplaces are changing more rapidly than ever before.
