'Brazen lie' | Chancellor accused of exaggerating economic experience on her CV

The Chancellor is facing allegations of embellishing her professional background to aid her political ambitions.

Of particular concern have been claims that Rachel Reeves exaggerated her roles at the Bank of England and Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS). 

These claims have prompted scrutiny from political opponents and the public regarding her qualifications and transparency.

Multiple outlets have reported that, during her 2010 general election campaign for the Leeds West parliamentary seat, Reeves claimed to have worked as an economist at Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS), potentially leveraging this experience to bolster her economic credentials. 

However, recent admissions from her team indicate that her role was in retail banking at Halifax, involving administrative and IT support tasks, rather than as an economist. This revelation led the Conservative Party to accuse her of a "brazen lie" and being "economical with the truth."
