Tesco CEO: Don't hurt our growth with workers' rights bill

Tesco Chief Executive Ken Murphy has made a plea to the Government ahead of the impending workers’ rights bill, calling for any measures to not compromise business productivity and growth.

The supermarket boss asked for close collaboration with UK businesses before introducing new legislation.

The bill is set to be announced in the coming days and to be put before Parliament in November. While the specific wording around any measures is not yet clear, the bill is expected to bring wide-ranging changes including an end to zero-hours contracts and improvements to workers’ rights from day one of employment.

What has Tesco’s CEO said about Labour’s proposed workers’ rights bill?

Murphy said he plans to take advantage of an upcoming consultation on the bill in which the Government will invite feedback from UK business stakeholders.
