£22k payout | YMCA worker felt 'treated like a criminal' for 'serious misuse' of charity's printer

A former YMCA employee disciplined for “serious misuse” of the office printer has been awarded more than £22,000 by an employment tribunal. 

Abimbola Idowu, a night support worker for the charity, felt “treated like a criminal” by bosses after being reprimanded for using £120 worth of the charity’s resources to print 750 pages of past exam papers for her teenage son. 

Charity officials accused Ms Idowu of ‘abusing' their resources, noting that 447 of the sheets were printed in colour, which incurs higher costs.

She lodged a grievance, arguing that she had been targeted by her superiors and treated “like a criminal.”
