Cafe 'remote worker bans' sheds a light on employee wellbeing

One of the best things about working from home for many employees is flexibility. This includes the flexibility to be able to work from your office, kitchen table, or co-working space.

Another common workspace is, of course, the common cafe. However, two coffee shops in Caversham have introduced policies which aim to limit the number of remote employees ‘hogging’ tables and minimising customer turnover.

One coffee shop, The Collective, has implemented its policy of banning laptops between 11:30 and 13:30 on weekdays. Whilst another Newbury-based coffee shop, Milk and Bean, has capped laptop use to one hour on weekdays and completely banned the use of the machines on weekends.

These situations shed light on the issue of small independent coffee shops experiencing lower turnover, and therefore lower revenue, since the rise of remote work.
