Asda staff take retailer to court in landmark equal pay case

A landmark equal pay claim against Asda has begun.

More than 60,000 Asda workers have taken their case to the Employment Tribunal which began on Monday, September 9th, in the largest ever private sector equal pay claim.

The case, expected to last three months, centres on claims that the predominantly female retail workforce is paid up to £3.74 per hour less than the predominantly male warehouse workforce.

Claimants argue that retail work is of equal value to the company as warehouse work.
