£8k bill for employee who secretly worked other jobs while claiming sick pay

An employee who falsely claimed thousands of pounds in sick pay while working other jobs has been ordered to pay the money back.

Zenab Salami was caught working for local authorities in London while claiming sick pay on a separate full-time job, and a car allowance, with Medway Council in Kent.

The 39-year-old appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court in July 2024, having pleaded guilty to an offence at a previous appearance at Medway Magistrates' Court; namely dishonestly failing to disclose information she was under a legal duty to disclose by working for the London Borough of Brent while claiming sick pay and essential car user allowance through her continued employment with Medway Council. 

The potential offences came to light when Salami commenced employment with the London Borough of Islington via an agency and was found to also be working for the London Borough of Brent via an agency.
