'Serious implications' for HR as Gov plans to treat misogyny as form of extremism

The UK Government will treat extreme misogyny as a form of extremism, Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, has said.

Cooper has ordered a review of the UK’s counter-extremism strategy, which was outlined in Labour’s manifesto, to clamp down on threats caused by extremism "both online and on our streets" that "frays the very fabric of our communities and our democracy".

The review is expected to be completed by October after the new government shared sentiments that a review was needed as there had been no new Counter Extremism Strategy since 2015.

Ikram Dahman, Interim Director of Fundraising, Policy & Communications at domestic abuse charity Refuge, said: “We welcome the news that the Government is for the first time considering including extreme misogyny within the counter-extremism strategy, putting it on a par with extreme racial and religious ideology and terrorism.
