The UK’s leading charity for the elderly has been found guilty of committing age discrimination against a job candidate.
An employment tribunal has ordered Age UK to pay more than £4,000 to Alexander Cubbin, who was found to have been wrongly treated after applying for a job.
Mr Cubbin, 58 at the time of applying, should’ve been eligible for a guaranteed interview due to his disabilities, but an admin error meant his application was turned down via a generic email rejection.
The tribunal ruled that the charity's recruitment process was flawed and that Mr. Cubbin had been unfairly assessed.
