IT, telecoms & engineering | UK Government to curb hiring from abroad in major industries

The UK Government has hinted plans to curb hiring from abroad for jobs within tech and engineering.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has commissioned the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to look into these sectors to understand if the UK has an over reliance on international workers.

In the letter to the MAC sent out last Wednesday, Cooper outlined the importance of understanding why some occupations rely so heavily on international hiring.

Cooper stated that IT, telecoms and engineering professionals are among some the UK’s top work visa users.
