Woman whose dream job offer was withdrawn over antidepressants use set for tribunal

A tribunal is set to hear the case of a woman who had a ‘dream job’ offer withdrawn because she was taking antidepressants.

Laura Mackenzie had accepted an officer role in the ranks of Police Scotland, and had already passed through the selection process after being identified as an “impressive” candidate.

Her onboarding was advanced to the point that she’d received a congratulatory call from an Inspector, and she was also booked in for a uniform fitting. But bosses withdrew her employment offer after becoming aware of her medical history.

Ms Mackenzie had accepted a provisional offer of employment to be a probationary officer in 2019. One of the provisions stated she must be "certified by a registered medical practitioner approved by the police authority to be fit both physically and mentally to perform the duties of a police officer".
