The new Labour Government has announced two major changes to how the national minimum wage is set.
In a move designed to “put more money in working people’s pockets”, the Government has overhauled the remit of the Low Pay Commission.
The LPC has now been ordered to factor in the cost of living when recommending minimum wage rates.
Discriminatory age bands are also set to be removed to “narrow the gap” between the minimum wage rate for 18-20-year-olds, which is £8.60 per hour, and the national living wage - currently £11.44 an hour.
