BBC warns staff about 'abusing power' in updated guidelines following Huw Edwards scandal

The BBC have updated their guidelines for employees, warning them that using their “celebrity status” to get a person to do something for them can be considered an “abuse of power”.

The updated ‘Managing Personal Relationships at Work Policy’ says that employees should raise any concerns they have if they witness an “imbalance of power”.

The guidelines also give advice and examples to the BBC workforce of what to look out for when spotting “signs or evidence of potential grooming”, including “coercive behaviour” or “inappropriate gifts”, and to report this behaviour to a line member or senior member of staff.

The March 2024 revision, which was revealed in the Sunday Times, follows BBC news presenter Huw Edwards facing allegations of payments to a young person for explicit images.
