Professional services company EY has said it has introduced a ‘reverse mentoring’ scheme into the company – but one where two employees from different generations are paired together to share their knowledge with one another.
The company said that although it already has a global mentorship programme that has been running since 2020, this new one has been piloted earlier this year with a small handful of employees.
Our stereotypical perception of mentoring is that someone with less experience can learn from someone who has been working for a longer period of time. In this case, EY are becoming hyper aware that older generations of their workforce can learn a thing or two from millennials and Gen Z, particularly when it comes to technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
This type of mentoring is a cost-effective way of building relationships and a culture of camaraderie in your organisation, whilst simultaneously enabling staff with different knowledge sets linked to their age to share that knowledge in a structured way.
