Pregnant HR manager wins tribunal as boss sends laughing emojis after sacking her

A HR manager has been awarded over £21,000 in a tribunal after her manager sent her laughing emojis after making her redundant.

The manager started working as an HR executive at the Africa Health Research Organisation (Ahro) in Glasgow in February 2023. When, she feels, she was unfairly terminated from the organisation when her manager found out she was pregnant.

Her own manager asked if she wanted to become an ‘onsite director’. But she refused because she knew she was pregnant.

At the end of August 2023, she notified her manager of her pregnancy, and a couple of weeks later told her to send out a message that “staff are made redundant for the next six weeks” after securing new investors.
