Mum had job offer rescinded after firm realised her children's ages

A mum-of-two has been awarded over £90,000 in a sex discrimination case after her job offer was rescinded upon revealing her children's ages. 

Fong Fong Lee successfully argued that the withdrawal of her employment offer by R & F Properties QS was due to her family status, a claim upheld by the London South Employment Tribunal.

Background

Ms Lee, an experienced marketing professional, was offered a Senior Marketing Manager role at R & F Properties QS, a property firm with offices in Vauxhall, London, and headquarters in China. 

The position, which came with a salary of £68,500 per year, was officially extended to Ms Lee on 27 September 2022. She resigned from her previous job, confident in her new position's security.
