Retaining talent is important to every company for multiple reasons.
You want to keep the best talent so they help your business thrive, so they don’t go to one of your competitors, and so you remain competitive in the market. However, another important factor is the cost to your firm having a low-performing employee is – which is often discovered too late.
Uri Levine, the co-founder of the map app Waze, has shed light on a harsh technique he uses to weed out under-performing employees who aren’t a good match for the tech company. On a podcast, Levine recently described how he gives newly employed candidates a test to determine their future success at the company.
“Every time that you hire someone new, what I really want you to do is mark your calendars for 30 days down the road and ask yourself one question; ‘knowing what I know today, would I hire this person?"’ said Levine. “At the end of the day, I'd like to nail that into ‘yes’ or ‘no.’”
