A solicitor who was made redundant just weeks after telling her boss she was pregnant has won more than £26,000 in compensation.
Mrs. M Dobson emerged victorious in her claim against Michael Cook Law Firm and its director, Mr. Michael D. Cook, for pregnancy-related discrimination.
The tribunal, held in Newcastle, concluded that Mrs Dobson faced unfair treatment following the disclosure of her pregnancy, leading to the withdrawal of a promotion offer and her subsequent dismissal.
Background of the case
Mrs. Dobson, who was employed as a conveyancing solicitor since August 2022, disclosed her pregnancy to Mr. Cook in February 2023. Following this disclosure, the tribunal found that the offer for her promotion to a director position was withdrawn, and her employment was terminated later that month.
