In an episode of Lilly Allen and Miquita Oliver’s podcast ‘Miss Me?’, 22-year-old American singer songwriter Billie Eilish opened up about how difficult it was to hold onto friends once she reached a level of fame.
The singer, who shot to heights after her first release ‘Ocean Eyes’, also went on to explain how she realised that her closest friends were indeed those who worked for her.
The superstar explained: “I remember looking around the room and it was only people that I employ,” she said. “And all 15 years or more older than me. And then, one of my best friends, who worked with me, quit. Out of the blue and didn’t talk to me. And it was the worst thing that happened to me.”
Most employers aren’t superstars, and most employees don’t work for a brand that’s a person, so won’t empathise with this experience. But Eilish’s encounter sheds light on the need of employees to value workplace friendships but recognise that work friends are still colleagues.
