The hospitality sector is seeing a rise in the use of robots in replacement of waiters and waitresses. One seafood restaurant in Concord, US revealed its very own robot that can deliver food, pick up dishes, and show promotional videos to customers.
Whilst the theme park DippleDoe in Europe recently employed a snack machine that drives itself around the park providing chilled drinks and snacks to attendees.
There is a myriad of appealing benefits to robot workers, they don’t make mistakes, require breaks, or request annual leave. And soon, we might expect to see them dominate the hospitality sector, where the likelihood of technical tasks is minimal in some cases – and in the case of restaurants, taking orders and delivering food can easily be carried out by an automated machine.
We have seen a variation of this automation in fast food chains since the turn of the century – with machines taking orders and dispensing drinks. But this is the next step in the technological revolution.
