No, Gen-Z's 'laid back' language is not a concern for HR

HR seems to be constantly discussing how emerging generations are affecting the world of work.

Among the generations supposedly making the most waves at the moment is, of course, Gen-Z. According to Zurich Insurance research, a grand total of 27% of the workforce will belong to this generation by 2025 – under one year away from now.

However, as Gen-Zers start to dominate our workplaces, they’ve hit a snag; everything they do is scrutinised to the nth degree by generations that currently hold positions of power. The latest wave of scrutiny faced by Gen-Z appears to be focused on their sense of ‘professionalism’.

As reported this week by the BBC, it seems that many young professionals are finding that their mannerisms are getting them into trouble; the report covered the experience of one young worker who was told by her boss that her ‘casual language and informal manner’ undermined her credibility. Ultimately, the young worker was fired for these reasons.
