Woman's dream job offer withdrawn because she was on antidepressants

A woman has launched legal action after having a job offer withdrawn because she was taking antidepressants.

Laura Mackenzie had her “dream job” offer as an officer with Police Scotland ripped away despite having already passed through the selection process and being identified as an “impressive” candidate.

Her onboarding was advanced to the point that she’d received a congratulatory call from an Inspector, and she was also booked in for a uniform fitting. But bosses withdrew her employment offer after becoming aware of her medical history.

According to the BBC, Mackenzie had accepted a provisional offer of employment to be a probationary officer in 2019. One of the provisions stated she must be "certified by a registered medical practitioner approved by the police authority to be fit both physically and mentally to perform the duties of a police officer".
