A worker with cerebral palsy was told not to “play the disability card” by a boss at his former employer, Home Bargains, it has been alleged.
The comment was reportedly made to Ryan Walker when he tried to explain his needs to his employer. The ex-employee also claimed that his superiors cared so little about his disability that he resigned from his job.
Walker has now settled a disability discrimination case against his former employer for £25,000. The case was settled without admission of liability and was supported by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
Walker had been working in the Armagh branch of Home Bargains as a sales assistant since 2017. His duties were warehouse and stock filling and he also worked in other departments.
