A receptionist who was sacked after reporting a thieving employee has been awarded five-figure compensation.
As reported by RTE, the unnamed whistleblower was working at a veterinary surgery when she grew concerns about a colleague taking money from the business in Ireland.
On one occasion, she found her co-worker pocketing cash instead of putting it in the till after selling some medicine, while on another occasion she noticed the cash drawer was light, according to the Workplace Relations Commission.
Fearing she might be implicated (as she also had access to the tills), she reported the concerns to a superior, she was told there was nothing they could do, because they would struggle to hire a replacement.
