100 firms make four-day week permanent after pilot scheme

Thousands of UK workers will be making a permanent switch to a four-day work week after their firms completed a trial period of the scheme.

Around 100 firms, employing approximately 2,600 employees, have made the switch after taking part in a pilot programme in 2022, testing the impact that one less working day per week (without any reduced pay for staff) would have on productivity and morale.

Marketing company Awin was one of the many UK businesses to take part in the four-day week pilot scheme. Its chief exec, Adam Ross said the initiative was “one of the most transformative initiatives we’ve seen in the history of the company.

“Over the course of the last year and a half, we have not only seen a tremendous increase in employee wellness and wellbeing but concurrently, our customer service and relations, as well as talent relations and retention also have benefited,” Ross said, as reported by The Guardian.
