Last week was Trans-visibility week, culminating in Transgender Remembrance Day on November 20, which is a day to memorialise those who have been murdered due to transphobia.
While there has been significant progress in addressing discrimination against LGBT+ employees, there is a long way to go until trans employees are fully included in UK workplaces and in some instances the world of work is getting worse for this cohort of workers.
Worryingly, more transgender people are hiding their identity at work than five years ago. In fact, a survey conducted by TotalJobs and Sparkle, the National Transgender Charity, found that 65% of trans people believed that it is necessary to hide their identities at work to feel safe and secure in their jobs. That is a sharp rise from five years earlier when just over 50% felt the same.
