Amazon CEO Andy Jassy allegedly ignored HR recommendations to fire a top executive accused of discriminatory behaviour, according to reports.
As reported by Protocol and, later, The Verge, a Black female AWS (Amazon Web Services) employee told HR in 2019 that a member of the executive leadership, Joshua Burgin, had made what she believed were discriminatory comments to her.
At the time, Burgin was Chief of Staff to AWS senior leader Charlie Bell. An internal AWS team investigated the allegations and recommended in a report that Burgin be fired, the sources told Protocol.
It is also reported that several senior Amazon executives — including HR Vice President Ian Wilson, HR Senior Vice President Beth Galetti and Bell himself — met to discuss the allegations against Burgin.
