'Drive real change' | CIPD & REC weigh in on Gov's workers' rights protections move

Both the CIPD and the REC have weighed in on the Government’s new plans to create a singular body in charge of safeguarding workers’ rights.

This week the Government confirmed that, in a move to protect the rights of workers within the UK, it would launch a new watchdog with the aim of ‘clamping down’ on workplace abuse.

The Government noted that the new body would take over responsibility for tackling modern slavery, enforcing minimum wage, and protecting agency workers – areas that are currently under the jurisdiction of three different groups.

By effectively bringing the initiatives under one umbrella, the Government states that it can improve enforcement to ensure employees and businesses know where to go for help on workers’ rights.
