Why you should encourage staff to listen to music WFH

Ed Sheeran’s track Shape of You and Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy were both recently ranked among the top ten most popular songs for working from home by smart home specialist Somfy.

Plus, with various studies alluding to the benefits listening to music can have, such as boosting morale and in some cases increasing concentration, it’s no wonder that people have created over 1,000 work-from-home playlists covering 187,450 songs throughout 2020.

In 2020, the Global Council on Brain Health (GCBH) released a report entitled Music on our Minds which discovered that listening to music also helped reduce stress and anxiety, while also having a positive effect on mental wellbeing.

And with this week marking Mental Health Awareness Week, HR Grapevine has explored whether HR teams should therefore encourage employees to listen to music while working, particularly as many staff continue working from home in light of the pandemic.
