Bridgerton star at centre of diversity hiring row

Regé-Jean Page, who recently played the Duke of Hastings in Netflix’s Regency era series Bridgerton, has responded to claims that he allegedly wasn't hired for a TV role because of his race.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, as part of its interview with actor Ray Fisher, it was revealed that Page auditioned for the role of Superman’s grandfather in a US series.

However, he was reportedly turned down for the role as Geoff Johns, former co-Chairman of DC Films, who was overseeing the project, allegedly stated that Superman could not have a black grandfather.

Page has since reacted to the story with a tweet, stating that “hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more”.
