Why Timpson's CEO thinks a Director of Happiness is a secret business weapon

The coronavirus pandemic has unearthed a raft of challenges for employees such as struggles with mental health, concerns over job security and money worries, as well as concerns in their personal life too.

Yet, as the current COVID-19 lockdown restrictions are shortly expected to lift, it is possible that employers and HR will have more people-related issues to deal with.

In a recent article authored by James Timpson, Chief Executive of Timpson Group, and published in The Times, the boss of the multi-national retailer said it is his job to carve out a “caring culture” that is able to support staff with issues that may arise.

“This beats shareholder value, profit targets, market share or even the level of dividends. People always have to come first,” he wrote in The Times article.
