Should employers have social media policies in place?

It was recently announced that actress Gina Carano had been dropped from Star Wars series The Mandalorian after it emerged that the star had shared a series of offensive social media posts.

Carano had shared a TikTok post that compared recent US political divides to the treatment of the Jewish community by Nazi soldiers, reported the Mirror.

In addition, she also revealed controversial opinions on face masks, vaccines and the coronavirus pandemic in several posts, among other things.

This collection of posts also sparked the hashtag #FireGinaCarano to trend on Twitter. A Lucasfilm spokesperson also added on February 11, 2021: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.
