Lidl gives UK staff 'thank you payment'

The supermarket chain Lidl has announced that it will give its UK workers a one-off payment as a ‘thank you’ for their continued hard work throughout the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Yahoo! Finance reported that front-line workers (including customer assistants, warehouse operatives and cleaners) in its UK arm will receive a one-off £200 “thank you payment”, with office-based staff set to receive £100 for their dedication shown during the pandemic.

The supermarket chain, which was founded in Germany, noted that more than 25,000 workers in the UK would receive the reward in acknowledgement of their hard work. This bonus is said to total more than £5.5million.

Christian Härtnagel, CEO at Lidl GB, said that the firm’s teams have done “a phenomenal job in helping to keep the nation fed”.
