Calls for updated work safety rules to protect key workers

Following the announcement of the latest lockdown in England the TUC is calling on the Government to urgently update workplace safety rules in order to protect essential workers and those unable to work from their own home.

The trade body reported that now it is understood that transmission of COVID-19 is mainly through infectious aerosols suspended in the air, rather than contact, safety measures that were published back in March 2020 must be updated.

For example, current protective measures that have been recommended for many are now no longer sufficient. Due to this, the TUC is calling on the Government to make several changes to its safety guidance.  

“With new strains of coronavirus spreading like wildfire, workplace safety rules must catch up,” said Frances O’Grady, General Secretary at the TUC.
