Staff opt for cash instead of Xmas party this year

New research has found that more than one in two UK employees (58%) would rather receive money from their employer this year so that they can host a party at home.

The data from Glassdoor, which polled more than 2,000 UK employees, found that the general sentiment towards work Christmas bash-ups was fairly negative this year, with two-thirds (67%) hoping that there wouldn’t be a party at all in 2020 due to the pandemic.

43% of staff members said that these events are a waste of time and money, while 53% said that they are just an excuse for people to drink too much and embarrass themselves.

Even if companies were to put on a virtual festive celebration for staff, 49% said that they wouldn’t attend it.
