Why Timpson's CEO gave himself a 'written warning'

Work perks play a huge role in helping the HR function achieve some of the things that it looks after such as attracting new talent into the business, engaging employees and retaining them too.

A wealth of research has pointed towards the benefits of offering work perks such as gifting staff an extra day off on their birthday to spend it doing whatever they want.

In a light-hearted Twitter post, the Chief Executive at Timpson, James Timpson, said that he has given himself a ‘written warning’ after going into work on his birthday, despite the fact that staff are given their birthdays off work.

He wrote: “It’s my birthday today and I’ve given myself a written warning. All Timpson colleagues get their birthday off as an extra day off, but I’ve sneaked to see our area managers at their Xmas planning meeting.
