Axed staff bonus 'will come as a blow'

The coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown period has impacted trading for many organisations and has hit employers and colleagues hard.

The department store John Lewis has revealed that staff will not receive a bonus following the Government imposed lockdown period which saw stores across the UK close.

According to the BBC, this is the first time that staff will not receive a bonus since 1953.

The firm’s chairwoman told staff that the recent announcement ‘will come as a blow’. This news comes after John Lewis posted a £635million pre-tax loss for the six months to July 25, 2020, after higher costs saw a mere one per cent rise in sales.
