Worker 'told to finish shift after heart attack'

Employers have a duty of care to their employees, which Acas said means that they should take all steps that are reasonably possible to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing.

However, for one worker this wasn’t this case. An employment tribunal heard that an electrician who suffered a heart attack while at work was asked to finish his shift before attending hospital, reported Metro.

During the tribunal, electrician Rob Craggs stated that his boss, Ian Derbyshire, ‘indicated that he would prefer if he finished his shift first’ when he told him that he needed to go to hospital.

While working on a site in Sunderland, Craggs claimed he was given ‘hush money’ by a director at BMS Electrical Services in Tyne and Wear as he recovered in hospital.
