Online retailer, Boohoo, is facing accusations of ‘modern slavery’ after a report emerged that workers based at a Leicester factory were being paid £3.50 an hour.
An undercover reporter at The Sunday Times suggested that workers at a Leicester factory which supplied clothes to Boohoo were also offered no protection from coronavirus, reported the BBC.
This comes after a localised lockdown was imposed in the East Midlands city following a spike in coronavirus cases. Despite this, the factory was said to still be operating throughout this time.
The reporter claimed that malpractice took place on the factory floor and stated that they were told that pay would be determined based on ‘how you work’.
