Fashion retailer Boohoo has been criticised for allegedly putting workers based within Leicester factories supplying the group at risk of catching coronavirus.
However, the company defended its practices yesterday after a garment workers’ rights group claimed that the online retailer was putting people at risk, reported Reuters.
The allegations have arisen after a local lockdown was imposed on the East Midlands city following several cases of coronavirus. This news comes despite the Prime Minister’s plans to ease lockdown measures in the UK, with the reopening of pubs and restaurants set to take place tomorrow (July, 4, 2020).
According to a tweet posted by Labour Behind the Label, which campaigns for workers’ rights, workers have reported cases of lockdown breaches within Boohoo's supply chain, as well as furlough fraud and modern slavery.
