What test and trace means for employers

The latest initiative announced by the Government in the fight to quell the coronavirus pandemic was revealed on Wednesday night.

The initiative, coined the ‘track and trace’ system, is already in the process of being rolled out across the nation, and will involve thousands of ‘contact tracers’ tracing down those who have been in contact with diagnosed cases of coronavirus to advise periods of self-isolation in England and Scotland, according to the BBC.

Tracers will inform those at risk of infection via text, email or via a call to isolate at home for 14 days and will track interactions as the virus moves through the population. Those who have already had the virus will also be asked to self-isolate.

Gov.uk stated on its website: “The service will allow us to trace the spread of the virus and isolate new infections and play a vital role in giving us early warning if the virus is increasing again, locally or nationally.”
