Remote future? | Twitter tells staff they can work from home 'forever'

Businesses are starting to roll out their own plans to get employees back to work amid the coronavirus pandemic, from implementing social distancing measures within the workplace to restricting the number of staff in one place at one time.

One company, however, has told its staff that they can work from home ‘forever’ if they choose to. According to the BBC, social networking site Twitter is letting its employees make that decision as the organisation looks towards the future of work post-outbreak.

The decision came as Twitter revealed its working-from-home measures had proven to be a success. It said: “The past few months have proven we can make that work. So, if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen.”

Twitter added that employees can also return to the office if they choose to when it eventually opens after lockdown. In a blog post the company added that those wishing to return to the office ‘will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions’.
