Coronavirus | Uber lays off 3,500 staff in three-minute Zoom call

Workers at the ride-hailing firm Uber have been informed that they will be losing their jobs via a three-minute Zoom conference call, numerous reports have revealed.

According to Fox Business, a total of 3,500 customer service and recruitment employees were informed about the status of their employment in a series of video calls as the business continues to struggle and face uncertainty following the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video obtained by The Daily Mail, Ruffin Chaveleau, Head of Uber’s Phoenix Center of Excellence, delivered the blow to thousands of staff members. She said: “Our rides business is down by more than half. There is not enough work for many frontline customer support employees. [As a result] we are eliminating 3,500 frontline customer support roles.

“Our role is impacted and today will be your last working day with Uber. You will remain on payroll until the date noted in your severance package,” Chaveleau added.
