Google staff told they can't expense food or perks

Employees at tech giant Google have reportedly been informed that they will not be able to expense food or gym costs while they work remotely from their homes, CNBC has reported.

This is the case for those employees who may even have extra money left over from unused event or travel budgets.

Google released an updated policy over the course of the last week informing staff of these changes, which stated that they could not expenses perks such as food, fitness, home office furniture and decoration or gifts, according to the materials obtained by CNBC.

It went on to reveal that staff would not be allowed to use unused budgets to do things such as purchasing meals for themselves and their teams during virtual meetings, or donate to charities of their choice.
