'Stop apologising for kids' noises in the background'

Working from home can come with a wealth of challenges. Whether it's problems with communication, technical hiccups or poor eating habits, there will be different challenges that each remote worker will face.

But since Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposed a nationwide school closure last week, working parents have had the added challenge of juggling home-schooling and professional commitments.

In response to the Government’s announcement last week, the CIPD’s CEO, Peter Cheese, said that employers need to “make allowances” because the disruption caused by the COVID-19 outbreak “is an exceptional circumstance”.

Cheese added: “With many schools looking at remote teaching, parents will have to juggle their work with helping their children to access school activities. There may be limited space and limited equipment to manage both parents and children working from home each day. There will be disruption.”
