Staff told not to use outbreak as an 'excuse'

Yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson held the first of a series of daily coronavirus press briefings. In Johnson’s first update, he highlighted the UK’s plan to fight the virus. 

All people living in the UK have now been asked to avoid all “non-essential travel” which included remote working arrangements (if possible) and avoiding pubs, clubs and theatres - the Guardian reported.

He said at the time: “Now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel. We need people to start working from home where they possibly can. And you should avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues.”

Johnson added that the recommendation to avoid social contact where possible was particularly important for those aged over 70-years-old, people with underlying health conditions and pregnant women.
