When a dispute arises at work – over issues such as employee conduct, terms and conditions of contracts and conditions in the workplace – workers may be able to raise the concern to their employer and pursue legal avenues.
However, a popular US-based food delivery firm is making headlines after getting workers to sign away their right to sue if a legal battle were to arise and then having this practise challenged by a Judge – Vox reports.
The case centres on the fact that DoorDash, a US delivery company, made workers sign a contract which meant legal disputes would be resolved through a privatised arbitration system – a method of resolving disputes outside of court which usually favours the employer.
This process is less formal and less expensive than a courtroom hearing but Vox suggested that this method can often work in favour of the employer because it discourages workers from standing up for their legal rights.
