Many factors may limit an individual’s chances of securing a new job; they may have previously been arrested or recently released from prison, while a random drug test may thwart their attempts.
However, those applying for a position at cosmetics company The Body Shop in the US no longer need to panic about the choices they may have made outside of the workplace, which may have scuppered their chances elsewhere.
According to Fast Company, this summer will see The Body Shop become the first retailer to launch an initiative called ‘open hiring’, where almost anyone who applies and meets the most basic requirements will be able to get a job, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Taking place in the US, the company first tried out the approach in its North Carolina distribution centre at the end of 2019.
