CIPD survey finds harassment is covered up at work

The growth of the Me Too movement has encouraged more individuals to come forward to share their experiences of sexual harassment, particularly in the workplace.

Last year alone saw the fast food chain McDonald’s receive 25 complaints of sexual harassment and Lloyd’s of London launch a survey to investigate its culture following a ‘devastating’ sexual misconduct report, indicating just how prevalent harassment at work is.

While the impact of the Me Too movement is evident, a quarter of employees believe that issues such as harassment and bullying are being swept under the carpet in their organisation, a report from the CIPD has revealed.

The report, which is based on two large scale surveys of employees and employers, discovered that 15% of workers have experienced bullying in the last three years, with four per cent claiming they have been sexually harassed at work with an additional eight per cent saying they have experienced other forms of harassment.
