With the festive period now firmly behind us, January may well be the ideal time for HR to take a look back over its practices from the past year with an analytical eye.
Whilst many businesses hoped to keep morale high over Christmas with champagne-fuelled work drinks and Christmas parties, chances are most workers are lamenting the boozy haze of the festive period – with many compelled to take part in the annual January dry-out.
New guidance from The Law Society’s Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) stated that consuming alcohol with colleagues may not be such a great idea at any point in the year – The Sun reported.
The guidance, which was released in support of Dry January, claimed that firms have a ‘collective responsibility’ to change the drinking habits of their staff and that the use of labels such as ‘work drinks’ may well put pressure on staff to consume alcohol. It said, therefore, that this could well amount to a form of workplace bullying.
